Walk 2 D'Feet Motor Neurone Disease

Sunday 20 September 2015

Event Information

Wellingtonians are being asked to put their best foot forward on Sunday 20 September for New Zealand’s first nationwide Walk 2 D’Feet Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The Wellington event, to be held at Westpac Stadium, is one of six events in cities across New Zealand that hope to raise funds for the three hundred odd New Zealanders currently battling the disease.

MND (also known as ALS) is a terminal neurological condition for which there is no effective treatment. It leads to the death of nerve cells - neurones - controlling the muscles that enable us to move, speak, breathe and swallow. With no nerves to activate them, muscles gradually weaken and waste away, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing.

The Wellington Walk to D’Feet MND will be 3km around the Westpac Stadium and concourse on flat terrain that is wheelchair friendly. Walkers are encouraged to bring the whole family along to enjoy festivities such as face painting, fun activities and prizes.

Registration can be completed online at <link http: www.walk2dfeetmnd.co.nz>www.walk2dfeetmnd.co.nz and is a $10 donation per person or $20 for a family of two adults and unlimited children.

Note: Event registration and t-shirt/merchandise pick up is between 9am and 10.30am.

Car park is free.
