Super Rugby: Hurricanes v Highlanders

Friday 27 May 2016

Attendance:  19372

Score

Hurricanes: 27
Highlanders: 20

Review

Anticipation was high for this 'rematch'. The game, particularly in the first half, was played at a frantic pace and the Hurricanes shot out to a 14-0, thanks to tries to Ardie Savea and fellow flanker Brad Shields.

From 14-0, the score became 14-7 when Sopoaga scored and converted a try, before a Beauden Barrett penalty made it 17-7 at halftime.

A converted Daniel Lienert-Brown try made it 17-14, Sopoaga added a penalty and then Barrett and Banks traded further three-pointers to leave things level at 20-20 with 20 minutes to play.

The Highlanders made heavy weather of gaining field position thereafter and Savea was able to burst through a couple of tackles to score.

Hurricanes 27 (Ardie Savea 2, Brad Shields tries; Beauden Barrett 3 con, 2 pen) Highlanders 20 (Lima Sopoaga, Daniel Lienert-Brown tries; Sopoaga 2 con, pen, Marty Banks pen). HT: 17-7.
