ITM Cup: Wellington Lions v Tasman

Friday 11 September 2015

Attendance:  3307

Score

Wellington Lions: 17
Tasman: 36

Review

Tasman remain unbeaten for the NPC season after defeating the Wellington Lions 36-17 at Westpac Stadium. Both they and Tasman were 4-0 this season, just in different echelons of the national provincial competition. In the first half, particularly, the Lions produced some brilliant rugby. But it was often undone by a pushed pass or a poor decision and, despite being on the back foot for most of the first 40 minutes, Tasman led 6-5 at halftime.

The second half was a different story. A converted Jackson Garden-Bachop try put Wellington 12-6 up, but it was one-way traffic from there as Tasman feasted on the Lions' turnovers.

Event Information

It’s all about redemption for the 2015 Wellington Lions as they look to take hold of their Championship status and earn the right to return to the top-flight Premiership in 2016.

Under the guidance of a new coach, and with many players rolling on from a fantastic Super Rugby season, the team is motivated, hungry and eager to put on a good show this year.

With five games being hosted here in Wellington, this is your chance to get behind the Lions during what is perhaps the season where they most need your support. A lot of hard work has gone into preparing to face the challenges of this season head on, and we’d love to have you there with us as we look to unleash our fury on some of those provinces who got the best of us in 2014.

Plus don't forget it's Onesie Day supporting Wellington Free Ambulance!
