All Blacks v The British & Irish Lions

Score

All Blacks: 21
The British & Irish Lions: 24

Review

New Zealand's series against the British and Irish Lions will go to a decider, after the visitors won a memorable second test at Westpac Stadium 24-21. With the teams now locked at 1-1, the third test at Eden Park on Saturday will be fought for a place in history.

There were any number of talking points but, in the immediate aftermath at least, the match will be remembered for Sonny Bill Williams' red card. The All Blacks second five-eighth hit Lions wing Anthony Watson high, and with no arms, in the 25th-minute and was shown a red card by referee Jerome Garces.

At halftime the score was level at 9-9 but the whole stadium felt on edge nine minutes later, when Farrell converted a Conor Murray try. Barrett had kicked another penalty in between and with 10 minutes to go it was all locked up at 21-21.

The Lions' fans were certainly out-shouting the locals and a "live' test match at Eden Park began to seem a certainty especially when Farrell kicked the decisive penalty with three minutes to go.

Scorers: British and Irish Lions 24 (Taulupe Faletau, Conor Murray tries; Owen Farrell 4 pen, 2 con) New Zealand 21 (Beauden Barrett 7 pen). HT: 9-9.
