Wellington secures 4 International Cricket games for Summer 2018/19

New Zealand Cricket have today announced the international cricket schedule for the 2018/19 summer and confirmed Wellington will host four fixtures - two at the Basin Reserve and two at Westpac Stadium.

  • 15-19 December 2018: BLACKCAPS v Sri Lanka Test Match, Basin Reserve
  • 3 February 2019: BLACKCAPS v India ODI, Westpac Stadium
  • 6 February 2019: WHITE FERNS v India Women T20 / BLACKCAPS v India T20, Westpac Stadium
  • 8 - 12 March 2019: BLACKCAPS v Bangladesh Test Match, Basin Reserve

David White, CEO of New Zealand Cricket emphasised the dual-venue approach: “It’s great to see the Basin Reserve playing such an important role in terms of our Test schedule, and Westpac Stadium fulfilling all the needs of our short-form commitments. We’re excited that Westpac Stadium will host double-headers between the BLACKCAPS and India men, and the WHITE FERNS and India women”.

The Basin Reserve again cements its position as one of New Zealand’s favourite test match venues, hosting two of the five test matches over the summer.

Said Cricket Wellington CEO Cam Mitchell “Cricket Wellington wants the Basin Reserve to be known as the premier test venue in New Zealand and the 10 Year Master Plan for the Basin Reserve aims to ensure this happens. We are also very excited to welcome the WHITE FERNS back to Wellington as we are incredibly invested in the development of the women’s game and want to be a driving force as New Zealand build towards the Women’s World Cup in 2021”.

Westpac Stadium will host India twice in the space of one week with an ODI on Sunday 3 February followed by a Waitangi Day T20 double header featuring both the WHITE FERNS and BLACKCAPS on Wednesday 6 February.

Said Westpac Stadium CEO Shane Harmon “Westpac Stadium is looking forward to hosting two back-to-back games against India which will provide some great opportunities to engage with both Kiwi and Indian cricket fans and create a real festival of cricket across that week. We are particularly pleased to add the White Ferns to the list of New Zealand national teams to headline here at Westpac Stadium when they take on India in a T20 double header”.

The announcement represents the collaborative approach by the region to attract a great calendar of sporting events for the benefit of locals and visitors alike.

Said Warrick Dent, General Manager of Events at WREDA “The international cricket series has become a quintessential part of enjoying summer in Wellington. We expect these matches to be popular with both locals and out of region visitors, with fans from all corners coming to get amongst the action and support their team”.
