One New Zealand Warriors to face the Knights in the opening round of the NRL on 3 March

The One New Zealand Warriors have confirmed their 2023 NRL season will kick off in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington, against the Newcastle Knights at 8.00pm on Friday 3 March.

Sky Stadium will set the scene for an historic match, with Newcastle playing in Aotearoa New Zealand’s capital for the first time.

“After missing out on playing a game in Wellington over the last three seasons, we are thrilled to be able to kick off the season there in 2023,” One New Zealand Warriors CEO Cameron George says.

“The last time we were here in July 2019, the game was a belter in front of a fantastic crowd, and we’re excited about playing in front of enthusiastic supporters once again.”

“We are thrilled to welcome back the One New Zealand Warriors to Wellington. The first round of the season is always one full of excitement and anticipation for the season ahead, and we look forward to Wellington coming out in force to support,” Sky Stadium Chief Executive Shane Harmon says.

“It will be a particularly special game for fans to come and watch, after three years on the trot, it is a nice way to thank fans from around Aotearoa who have supported the New Zealand Warriors from a distance,” WellingtonNZ GM Events and Experience Warrick Dent says.

“We’re expecting an influx of supporters in the capital specifically for the game, as their passionate fanbase like to travel in strong numbers, and we can’t wait to host them.”

Tickets go on sale through Ticketek from Wednesday 23 November. Early bird pricing starts from $10 for children, $25 for adults and $59 for families (two adults + two children).
